A distribution shipment is one that is consolidated and sent to a single port, and then distributed around that country to multiple consignees.

The main advantage of doing this is that the shipment can be cleared under one entry avaoiding the costs of multiple entry clearances. For this to happen all the consignments must have the same "Importer of Record" ie any duties or taxes need to be paid by the one party - whether it be the shipper or an agent at the destination.

Each individual delivery point still maintains it's own shipment number - and can be tracked and traced individually from pick-up to delivery.
